Early life and Career
Tom Ford was born on August 27, 1961, in the United States of America. He had spent an early part of his life in Houston, Texas, and later moved to New Mexico where he attended the school St. Michael’s High School and Santa Fe Preparatory School.
Tom enrolled at Bard College and New York University, but later dropped out from there when he realized that his talent was in acting in the commercial television. However, later he found that he has an interest in the fashion domain.
To fulfill his interest in the fashion domain, he enrolled at the New School’s art and joined Chloe’s press as an intern. However, he ended up with a degree in architecture.
Tom then worked as a design assistant for Hardwick for around 2 years and then moved to Perry Ellis. After a few years, Tom found that an Italian fashion house, Gucci was struggling to strengthen its women’s ready-to-wear presence. Tom applied for that and luckily the company’s director Dawn Mello hired him as a women’s ready-to-wear designer.
After over 6 months, Gucci expanded towards the menswear collection. There was a vacancy for the role of the design director and luckily Tom was selected for the role. During the period of the 1990s, when Tom took the charge of the company’s 11 product lines, the results were highly overwhelming. The company’s valuation reached over $10 billion during the time.
During 2006, Tom launched a brand of his own in the lines of beauty, menswear, eyewear, and accessories.
Tom, then debuted as a film director in 2009 with the film, A Single Man. The film was premiered at the 66th Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion award. Tom had also received the Best Adapted Screenplay award.
